How following money twitter changed my life

TL;DR: Yes, the rumours are true. We moved the beyond epic money twitter/X bubble from 2023 to Medium. While people making $300k/year as a Java developer but don’t have anything but a mattress in their flat, I got into the biz as well— to a degree that my 10x DNA keeps me from doing holiday and my work. My solution to the problem is rather simple. Going back to level 1.

2023 — Money Twitter

It was an epic year. Money twitter came to new heights, when everyone got their $99 badge (or was it $69?). People creating new business models like consulting hedge funds about NFTs or buying a metal detector to stay on the grind. But it didn’t end here. Many saw new forms of shadow-bans and LinkedIn pushed some of us out of the matrix. It were the best of times and those were the worst of times. But they were great.

2024 — Everyone getting rich

Many of us matured in their role, and quintupling their revenue. Some are now making $300k/year as a Java developer but would rather fly back to Seattle to stay on the grind.

And I get it. It is a holiday thing. I grinded to 10x myself. But you know, staying on the grind got more and more difficult for me. Because the grind itself becomes an obstacle. It is ridiculous. However, Jeff Bezos knew it.

I ended up getting distracted by girls and other ridiculous stuff like arguments about citizen rights in terms of health data and, as a consequence, was leaving monk mode and my PhD position. Combined with a severe infection, I could not do much work on passion projects for 2 months now.

So I decided, I will once again learn something new. Because where is the sense in life if you don’t progress? I do not believe in specialists because I think they are making themselves limited.

But yes, that is my problem maybe and I should try another approach? However, I see more revenue coming in being able to play many roles.

Now: Back to the basics

Back to Level 1 — Where it is always day one.

I wondered how can I get back to the excitement, and the harmony with just doing things I enjoy?

The answer to the question was: Going back to a garage. And it’s win-win. Today I arrived in something like a hostel in a house where 12 people live, and then also my room is a garage. It’s like backpacking, but you are there for work. It’s like starting all over at level 1. At rock bottom.

Like a real dude. I am back to Level 1. Someone from the flat share says she is sorry because she only lived for one day in the garage.

But entering the room, I got grounded. It was the largest contrast I could imagine from yesterday’s business dinner with multiple courses, meeting successful young scientists and engineers.

The very moment I entered the garage, I felt a deep relief. So much, that I needed to sleep. When I woke up, I just laughed. I could let go of my anger that was so transformative, but then ended up trapping me into a numb void.

I really missed that feeling when you are at rock bottom, and you know it.

At rock bottom, there is no excuse left.

Because the excuse can’t get you further down to the bottom. You are already at the bottom.

From there — the bottom, the only way is to go up. There is no Latte Macchiato machine, there is no distracting girl you are dating that is sleeping with your flat mate. There is no proud left. The ego can’t get productive in the environment. You are again you. At rock bottom, nothing matters but the now. It’s the yogis’ dream.

Finally, for me, it's always day one again. So I don’t understand why my flatmate was sorry. I am grateful for this. Thank you!

See you
